Winter workhorse training

It can be a challenge to keep horses in training during the winter. But yesterday we hitched John and Jim to the forecart with the little utility trailer behind. Of course everything looks different when covered in snow so around each corner we had to stop and let them figure things out.

We went around the Finnriver orchard and stopped by the fire station. Then back to the hitching post. After that we let them out to the snowy pasture which they enjoyed. They made some snow angels (rolled), played a little and trotted around a bit.

Driving around helps maintain their training and mine. They get exposure to how I work their lines and the voice commands. Its good for their feet to get out onto different surfaces. Another thing we do in the winter is thinning the trees on our home property while the birds are not around. This helps the horses keep their muscles toned.
